To allow the group to get to know one another better, we will gather Monday evening in IFO’s “French bistrot” to have a drink together and taste regional specialties like South of France olives, tapenade olive spread, tielles from Sète and our delicious goat cheese, Pélardon.
At the beginning and end of each week, we’ll eat lunch together at one of the quaint little restaurants located near the school in one of the little streets of the historic city center. You will enjoy a real conversation course in French in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
In the afternoon, we’ll accompany you as you explore our beautiful city and meet its residents: We’ll discover together Montpellier’s historic city center, its monuments, its squares . . . We’ll show you our favorite boutiques and merchants and show you around like we would a friend . . . We’ll end the day at a lovely, shaded terrasse or amidst the bustle of the place de la Comédie, sharing a drink and talking about your impressions, answering your questions . . . in French, of course!
We’ll set out to meet some Montpellier residents. Depending on their availability, a craftsman of stringed instruments, a potter or a musician will talk to us about his craft and daily life in Montpellier. This authentic exchange in French will provide our lesson for the next day, allowing you to master the French vocabulary that you’’ll have learned.
We’ll focus on culture! We’ll choose a destination among the current exhibits around town. Montpellier has a wide variety of museums, art and photo galleries. From the Panacée, specializing in contemporary art, to the more classical Musée Fabre, or the Pavillon Populaire, it will be a hard choice! Thursday morning’s class will be devoted to art and will allow you to feel at ease during the afternoon visit where we’ll discuss your impressions, in French of course, as we share a drink afterwards.
French Immersion course: gastronomy and tourism
If you come off-season, in autumn or early spring, you can take the “gastronomy and tourism” version of our immersion course. We’ll accompany you to two other beautiful French regions that we love: Beaujolais and Burgundy*.
The French language courses in the morning remain the same and will give you the French language essentials for communicating with others during your language stay in France.
